President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday met with governors of the North East at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where the leaders presented a comprehensive list of priority projects requiring federal intervention to drive recovery in the insurgency-affected region.

Speaking on behalf of the North East Governors’ Forum, Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, urged the President to expedite work on stalled roads and rail networks that remain critical for commerce, mobility, and security. Among the highlighted projects were the Kano–Maiduguri Road, the Port Harcourt–Jos–Bauchi–Maiduguri railway line, the Bama–Mubi–Yola Road, and the Wukari–Jalingo–Yola Road, alongside several other intra- and inter-state routes stretching across Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, Adamawa, and Borno States.

Governor Zulum commended President Tinubu for sustaining counter-insurgency measures inherited from his predecessor, stressing that peace and stability are gradually returning to the sub-region. He pledged the support of the governors for the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in manpower development, technological deployment, and agricultural expansion as strategies to combat insecurity.

“The North East governors hold you in high esteem, and all of us have resolved to partner with you in your determination to provide good governance for Nigeria with a view to leaving behind lasting legacies and landmarks for the country,” Zulum said.

Responding, President Tinubu acknowledged the urgency of the infrastructure demands and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to tackling both the developmental and security challenges of the North East, assuring the governors that their concerns would not be left unattended.
