The Kwara South Senatorial Candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kwara State, Prof. Wale Suleiman, has lamented that Kwara South has remained significantly underdeveloped for the past 30 years despite the people’s active participation in the electioneering process, saying “it is time we stopped allowing the political elites from using our people as mere voters”.

Prof. Suleiman, who addressed newsmen on his political ambition on Monday in Ilorin, the state capital, said: ” The time has come for us all to be critical stakeholders in the affairs of our region and take our destiny into our hands.”

The SDP candidate urged the people of Kwara South to vote wisely for a person like himself with clear mission, skills and capabilities to deliver a more progressive, prosperous and united Kwara South, rather than those that have been making the region work only for a handful of people while the masses wallow in poverty.

He said: “The people-fearing politicians, unlike God-fearing politicians, have continuously demonstrated that they cannot deliver the dividends of democracy that are owed to our people as they often divert much needed resources in Kwara South to other districts by instructions of their godfathers.

“Our people must decide whether we want to go back to the dark days of political enslavement or secure our political freedom by electing me as the next Senator on 25th February, 2023.”

He promised to pursue developmental transformation of Kwara South, if elected, into one of the best places to live in the state and Nigeria, adding that the district would also be made known for safety and socioeconomic development.

The medical doctor unveiled his six developmental priorities for Kwara South, including promotion of investments to create jobs for the teeming youths, promotion of access to basic healthcare across all communities, promotion of access to free primary and secondary school education for all children and promotion of policies to reduce poverty and protect the rights of the vulnerable citizens.
