No fewer than five persons were reportedly killed by suspected Fulani, who also set some houses ablaze in Mbaya Community in Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State, yesterday.

It was gathered that the terrorists invaded various communities in the area by 4am when the inhabitants were asleep.

An eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that the Fulani terrorists were armed to the teeth.

“Soon after they stormed the community, they started shooting sporadically, as well as setting houses ablaze,” the eyewitness said.

The eyewitness stated further that the destroyed properties are worth millions of naira.

A survivor, Teryila Orkuma, while relaying his ordeal, stated that, if not for God he could have been a dead man.

“Following the intervention of the Almighty, I cheated death by the whiskers, and narrowly escaped the scene, and fled to my elder brother’s place in the state capital,” he said.

When contacted, the Council Chairman of Buruku LGA, Hon. Raymond Zege Aondoakura, confirmed the development.

“In recent times, we’ve been engrossed with activities of herders, oftentimes visiting and unleashing mayhem, resulting in burning houses and matched innocent people to death,” he said.
