The Nigerian Army College of Nursing (NACON), in affiliation with the University of Lagos (UNILAG), has held its maiden matriculation ceremony for students admitted into the newly-introduced Bachelor of Nursing Sciences (BNSc) programme.
The historic ceremony that took place at the College Auditorium, Myhoung Barracks, Yaba, Lagos, formally marked the commencement of the degree programme within the institution.
Speaking at the event, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, FAS, congratulated the matriculating students on their admission into the nursing profession, which she described as one of the most honourable and impactful careers globally.
She noted that the students were joining the profession at a time when the world had come to deeply appreciate the contributions of nurses, especially in the post-COVID era.
“You are coming into this field at a time when the nursing profession is being redefined and celebrated for its sacrifice, empathy, and resilience. Your journey begins at a high point in the profession’s history,” she remarked.
Also present at the event was the Director, JAMB Lagos Zonal Office, Mr. Billiaminu Shittu, who was represented by Mrs. Theresa Osemwegie, Head of Matriculation Unit.
In his goodwill message, the Director congratulated the students and urged them to pursue academic excellence, uphold the ethics of their chosen profession, and serve humanity with commitment, passion and integrity.
The ceremony was well attended by members of the academic community, senior military personnel, and families of the matriculating students. It marked a significant step in the institution’s efforts to expand access to quality nursing education and contribute meaningfully to the growth of the healthcare sector.
