The Military High Command has dismissed reports claiming that terrorists abducted 150 people in Gobir, Sokoto State. Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, issued a statement clarifying the situation.

According to Buba, the disturbing footage circulating online, which depicts mass killings and burials, is actually from a neighboring African country, not Nigeria.

The statement detailed an incident on August 29, 2024, around 5 p.m., when troops from OPERATION HADARIN DAJI, stationed at FOB Zurmi in Zurmi LGA, Zamfara State, engaged in a combat patrol aimed at disrupting a terrorist gathering in Kwashabawa Village.

During the operation, two of the troops’ Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles became immobilized in the swampy terrain caused by recent rains. The troops had to dismount and disable the MRAPs when attempts to retrieve them failed. This action was taken to prevent the vehicles from falling into terrorist hands.

Major General Buba urged the public to be cautious of the terrorists’ tactics, which include spreading misinformation and fake news as part of their propaganda efforts.
