Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has issued a stern directive to security operatives to take decisive action against a notorious “Marlian” group responsible for terrorizing the Maiduguri and Jere areas within the metropolis.
The “Marlian” group primarily comprises young individuals associated with drug abuse and is involved in a wide range of criminal activities, including extortion, robbery, drug and substance abuse, and acts of terrorism, which have tragically led to fatalities. Their targets often include security operatives.
Governor Zulum, in an emergency security meeting at the Government House, expressed his determination to prevent the group’s activities from escalating into a major security crisis.
“I have called for this emergency security council meeting to address the emerging security threat plaguing the Maiduguri metropolis and parts of Jere Local Government. We aim to devise additional implementable strategies to ensure the much-needed peace and security,” stated Zulum.
Intelligence reports presented to the Governor from various sources indicate a rise in youth gangsterism in certain areas of the state capital and Jere Local Government. The group’s criminal activities have extended from petty crimes like phone snatching and possession of homemade weapons to the tragic killings of innocent lives, including security personnel.
Deeply concerned about the escalating violence, Governor Zulum reassured the public of the Borno State Government’s determination to restore peace and safeguard all residents.
“I want to assure the general public that under my leadership, the Government of Borno State will not allow this situation to deteriorate further. Security operatives have pledged their commitment to curbing such heinous acts, and our administration is fully dedicated to resolving these issues as swiftly as possible,” emphasized Governor Zulum.
