Zamfara: Umar, PDP head, fears APC would seize power in 2027

    Published on

Alhaji Abubakar Umar, a leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State, has voiced his intense concern that the current PDP may be overthrown by the All Progressive Congress (APC) in 2027.

In Gusau, the State capital, Umar told reporters he felt the political struggle would be a “do or die” situation.

“Even though I hold a PDP card, the crisis is taking on new dimensions as APC moneybags are investing in the general elections of 2027 in an attempt to ensure their party’s triumph.

Governor Dauda Lawal is the sole sponsor of the PDP; other sponsors are concealing their funds, which prevents the party from progressing.

“Remember that Hon. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, the current minister of state and defense, and Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar, a two-term governor of the state, have strong Zamfara political ties,” he stated.

He claims that Hon. Abdulmalik Zubairu Zannah, the representative for the Bungudu/Maru federal constituency, is another stalwart member of the APC in the state who will not let the PDP win handily in his district.

He went on to say that the Zamfara North has always been governed by Senator Sahabi Ya’u Kaura, who will not let the PDP in.

What is left for the PDP to celebrate if the APC is able to seize control of the Zamfara North and West zones?

“The people have been showing seriousness, so the APC may not be able to use power of incumbency in the general elections in 2027,” he continued.

He claims that aside from the political squabbles among APC members that began in 2019, the PDP has not formed a government in the state since 1999.

He issued a warning, saying, “They have now come together to fight a common political battle which may likely favor them in 2027 general elections.”
