    Published on

By Hosea Parah, Abuja In a significant move to enhance youth engagement and regional collaboration, Nigeria’s Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, has warmly welcomed the appointment of Chief Obinna Nwaka as Nigeria’s Focal Person for the Nigeria–South Africa Exchange Fellowship Programme. The announcement was made by the Universal Greening Organisation (UGO) on April 1, 2026. Chief Nwaka, who currently serves as the Director-General of the Committee of Youth on Mobilization and Sensitization (CYMS), has been recognized for his extensive experience in youth mobilization and leadership development. His role will involve coordinating Nigeria’s participation in the initiative, which aims to foster collaboration between young leaders in Nigeria and South Africa. In a statement issued by Hosea Parah, the CYMS Media and Publicity Officer, Olawande expressed confidence that Nwaka’s leadership would enhance Nigeria’s contribution to the fellowship and provide a meaningful platform for young Nigerians to engage on the continental stage. The Nigeria–South Africa Exchange Fellowship Programme is designed to deepen bilateral ties and equip participants with vital skills in climate action, sustainable development, and regional cooperation. It will facilitate exchange visits, joint projects, and policy engagement between emerging leaders from both countries. As Focal Person, Chief Nwaka will lead the Nigerian delegation to South Africa and serve as the primary liaison between UGO and Nigerian institutions. His responsibilities will include overseeing program implementation, coordinating participant selection, and building partnerships aligned with national priorities. UGO clarified that the position is honorary and does not constitute formal employment, emphasizing its role in advancing youth empowerment and Pan-African development goals. Preparations are already underway for the 2026 edition of the fellowship, and UGO has requested formal acceptance from Chief Nwaka as activities intensify. This appointment marks a pivotal step in promoting regional collaboration and empowering youth across Africa, further solidifying Nigeria’s commitment to fostering meaningful engagement among young leaders.
