    Within a year, NDLEA apprehends 929 suspects in Kwara

    According to the Kwara Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), 929 individuals were detained in the state for offenses involving hard drugs between January and December 2024.

    This was revealed on Monday at a press conference held at the NDLEA headquarters in Ilorin by state commander Mrs. Fatima Popoola.

    Within a year, 839 men and 90 women were among those arrested in the state, according to Popoola.

    She explained that the command conducted a series of activities to suppress the supply and demand for hard drugs, adding that 2,642,103 kilograms were seized within the year in review.

    “The seized drugs include cannabis, tramadol, diazepam, methamphetamine, cough syrup laced with codeine, and cocaine/crack.

    In order to address the multifaceted issues of cannabis abuse and trafficking, the state urgently needs to step in. Cannabis accounts for 1,455,529 kg of the total substances collected.

    According to her, “the removal of 1.5 tons of cannabis is a huge help to parents and the good people of the state; otherwise, the drugs’ destructive effects could have been devastating.”

    185 hard drug users were arrested, sent to the drug demand reduction unit for short-term treatments, and then reintegrated with their families, according to the commander.

    Along with the intervention activities, 22 clients were admitted to our rehabilitation center, and another 17 non-residential clients came from their homes for counseling.

    According to the Kwara Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), 929 persons were imprisoned in the state for charges involving hard narcotics between January and December 2024.

    Popoola reported that within a year, the state had arrested 90 women and 839 men.

    She stated that the command performed a variety of measures to restrict the supply and demand for hard narcotics, adding that 2,642,103 kg were seized within the year in review.
