‘We Will Not Use The Term ‘Unknown Gunmen’ Again’—Lawmaker

    Published on

A member of the Plateau State House of Assembly representing Barkin Ladi Constituency, Dickson Chollom, has said the description “unknown gunmen” should no longer be used to describe recent violent attacks in the area.

Naija News reports that Chollom stated that those responsible for the killings have been identified, adding that authorities now know the individuals behind the incidents.

The lawmaker made the remarks during a visit to Heipang District in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, where he went to console residents and gather information following a recent attack that left three people dead and one seriously injured.

The victims were identified as Marvin Choji, 23; Bitrus Choji, 24; and Daniel Dung, 59, while Stephen Davou, 48, sustained severe injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by Chollom’s Senior Strategic Media and Communication Adviser, George Lambert.

According to the lawmaker, security operatives have arrested one suspect in connection with the attack, and the individual has allegedly provided information about others involved.

“We will not use the term ‘unknown gunmen’ anymore. One of the people involved has been caught and he has told where others who helped him in doing this terrible attack are,” Chollom said.

Chollom urged security agencies to make the outcomes of their investigations public to reassure residents that justice is being pursued.

He called for the disclosure of the suspect’s confessional statements, the identities of other alleged accomplices, and details of where the suspects are being held.

The lawmaker stressed that residents of Barkin Ladi and Plateau State deserve transparency and fairness in handling the case.

Chollom also appealed to the Plateau State Commissioner of Justice to take charge of the case and ensure that those responsible are prosecuted diligently.

“This is not business as usual. The people need to know the truth, and those who are responsible should be held fully accountable by the law,” he said.
