‎Barring last minute intervention, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Plateau State University (PLASU) Branch, will embark on a total, comprehensive, and indefinite strike on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, over the failure of the Plateau State Government to implement the 2025 Federal Government/ASUU Agreement.

‎According to a statement issued by the Branch Chairman, Dr Vincent Choji, the union has received authorisation from the union’s National Executive Council (NEC) to initiate industrial action if their grievances remain unaddressed.

‎NEC considered the branch’s request to embark on industrial action over unresolved issues contained in its Charter of Demands.

‎The demands include: commencement of the Contributory Pension Scheme, implementation of the 2025 FGN/ASUU Agreement and payment of arrears with effect from January 2026, provision of safe and secure staff quarters, construction of trenches around the perimeter fence; cessation of the intimidation of union leaders, as contained in a letter to Congress dated 18th May, 2026, through the Registrar; and payment of 22 months’ arrears of the 25%/35% wage award.

‎The statement added that NEC also considered the report of the Visitation Team that met with the University Administration and the Visitor to the University on Monday, July 27, 2026.

‎“Having assessed the responses of both the University Administration and the Plateau State Government, NEC observed that nothing tangible has been done to address the Branch’s Charter of Demands,” the statement read.

‎Consequently, NEC granted the branch’s request to proceed on a total, comprehensive and indefinite strike action upon the expiration of a two-week ultimatum, which commenced on Monday, August 10, 2026 and ends on Monday, August 24, 2026.

‎Choji warned that if urgent steps are not taken to address the issues, students will be seriously affected.

‎He noted that students are scheduled to resume on August 27, while lectures are to commence on September 9, 2026, according to the university’s academic calendar.
