Borno State Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement (RRR), Ibrahim Garba, was discovered dead in his guest house located in the 777 housing estate in Maiduguri on Saturday. His body was found alongside that of an unidentified woman, who was initially unconscious and later succumbed to her condition at the hospital. Both bodies are presently at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, where an autopsy is being conducted to determine the cause of death.

The Borno State Government has confirmed Commissioner Garba’s demise, expressing shock and grief over the incident. Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, deeply affected by the news, mourns alongside the commissioner’s family, friends, and colleagues. The Borno State police command has initiated an immediate investigation into Garba’s death, with the state police commissioner visiting the scene.

The identity of the woman found with Commissioner Garba remains undisclosed. The official statement did not provide specific details regarding the circumstances surrounding Garba’s death but offered prayers for his forgiveness and peaceful afterlife. Police Public Relations Officer, Borno State Command, Kaminu Shatambaya, confirmed the incident but refrained from divulging further information until the autopsy results are available. Ibrahim Garba, a significant figure in Governor Zulum’s administration, previously served as the Special Adviser on Special Projects before his appointment as the commissioner of RRR at the beginning of Governor Zulum’s second term.
