In a recent interview, Tiwa Savage opened up about her experience as an executive producer in the making of her new film, “Water and Garri.” Describing the process as a chance to embrace her role as a “boss lady,” Savage expressed both the enjoyment and challenges of taking on such a significant role while also starring in the film.

Reflecting on her decision to venture into acting, Savage revealed that it had always been a dream of hers, even before her music career took off. She saw the opportunity to combine her passion for both music and acting, making it a fulfilling endeavor.

Discussing the film’s title, which coincides with her 2021 EP, Savage explained that it felt like a natural progression for her. The movie follows the journey of a Nigerian fashion designer who returns to her homeland after achieving success in the US.

Savage emphasized the importance of telling stories from a female perspective, noting the lack of representation in the Nollywood space. She expressed her excitement for the opportunity to contribute to female empowerment through storytelling.

Touching on the global rise of Afrobeats, Savage highlighted its significance in bringing African music back to the forefront of the music industry. She emphasized the cultural roots of genres like RnB, jazz, and soul, which originated from Africa, and expressed her joy in seeing Afrobeats reclaiming its place in commercial music.

Overall, Savage’s involvement in “Water and Garri” reflects her commitment to empowering women and showcasing African talent on a global scale.
