STATEMENT ON THE RECENT INCIDENT INVOLVING THE NIGERIA POLICE FORCE

    Published on

We are deeply saddened and disappointed by the recent incident where an individual, who is not a serving member of the Nigeria Police Force, wore a police uniform and failed to recite the Nigeria National Anthem during a senior police officers’ conference. Such an act was not only ill-thought but also a blatant disregard for the sanctity and significance of the uniform and the event.

This incident raises troubling questions: Was this orchestrated to embarrass the Inspector General of Police, the Nigeria Police Force as an institution, and Nigeria as a country? Who were those behind this decision?

The decision to employ someone outside of the Nigeria Police Force for such a crucial role, especially when the Force has a dedicated band section proficient in music and entertainment, is deeply concerning. Allowing a non-career police officer to don the uniform and represent the Force in such a capacity undermines the essence and professionalism of our serving members and brings unnecessary embarrassment to the institution and the country at large.

The NPF stands as a symbol of our nation’s security, order, and pride. It is imperative that any representation, whether symbolic or literal, reflects these values. We demand a thorough investigation into the matter to ascertain the reasons behind such a decision, identify those responsible, and ensure they are held accountable. We owe it to the Nigerian people to ensure that the dignity of our institutions is never compromised.

The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to its duty to serve and protect, and we assure the public that we will take all necessary steps to prevent such incidents in the future.
