Simone Biles Makes History as the Most Decorated Gymnast of All Time

American gymnastics sensation Simone Biles has achieved a remarkable milestone, becoming the world’s most decorated gymnast of all time. This historic accomplishment took place during the 2023 World Gymnastics Championships held in Antwerp, Belgium.

Biles delivered a series of breathtaking performances throughout the competition, including her groundbreaking Yurchenko double pike vault routine on Monday. As the first woman to successfully execute this complex maneuver, she received thunderous applause from the audience, and the routine was officially named after her.

On Friday, the Olympic champion extended her record as the highest all-around titleholder by securing her sixth championship. She accumulated a total score of 58.399 points for her exceptional performances on the balance beam, floor exercise, vault, and uneven bars. Remarkably, Biles won her first all-around title a decade ago at the age of 16, in the same city.

Hailing from Texas, Simone Biles now boasts an astounding tally of 7 Olympic medals and 27 World Championship medals, making her the most decorated gymnast in the world, both in the male and female categories. This achievement allowed her to surpass her previous tie with Belarusian counterpart Vitaly Scherbo, who held a total of 33 medals.

In addition to her individual success, the United States team, led by Biles, successfully defended their title and secured the championship for the seventh consecutive year on Wednesday.

Reflecting on her victory on Friday, Biles shared with reporters, “Actually, I had something in my eye today that I couldn’t get out, I swear it’s true. But I was emotional because 10 years ago, I won my first worlds, and now we’re back here.”

Biles’ extraordinary achievements come after a challenging period during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics when she withdrew from several events due to medical and mental health concerns.
