Fear has gripped Katsina residents following reports of constant cases of rape of women in the state.

Sources said the frequency of the rape has forced several women married and unmarried to relocate to neighbouring states while those unable to move hide in bushes to avoid being seen or kidnapped by the marauders otherwise called bandits

In some villages, bandits have reportedly turned many people into slaves according to Dr Bashir Kurfi, an elder and community leader.

He told BBC Hausa service monitored in Abuja that bandits have occupied people’s homes in many katsina villages, where they force the owners to live in makeshifts and work on farms taken over by the bandits to produce food for the terrorists.

“At the same time, they’re serially raping women and girls” he stated

Dr Kurfi cited one incident that he witnessed in which 40 bandits gang-raped nine women for a whole day. He said he personally took the victims to the Federal Medical Centre in the state capital for treatment

“When doctors at the FMC checked the victims, they advised that they should be taken to a Urology Hospital (which treats urinary-tract system) because the damage done was beyond the capacity of an FMC’ he explained.

Observers are worried that if such horror is taking place in president Buhari’s own state, only God knows what happens in other states of the federation.
