Shehu Sani Warns of Consequences for PDP and Labour Party if APC Secures Minority Leader Position

Former Senator Shehu Sani, who previously represented Kaduna Central, has expressed concerns about the potential impact on the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party if the All Progressive Congress (APC) secures the position of Minority Leader in the 10th National Assembly.

During an interview with Arise Television on Monday, June 26, Sani asserted that it appears the ruling APC desires a Minority Leader who will serve as a puppet for their agenda. He warned that this outcome would be detrimental to the PDP and the Labour Party.

Sani alleged that the PDP has relinquished its responsibility as the main opposition party to the Labour Party.

He stated, “The signs that are emerging indicate that the APC wants to have a Minority Leader who will be subservient to the ruling party. If that happens, it will spell the end for the opposition (PDP) in the National Assembly.”

He further explained, “The reason why you hear more from the Labour Party today as the opposition is because the PDP has relinquished its responsibility as the main opposition to the Labour Party.”

Sani emphasized the importance of maintaining the independence of the National Assembly and warned that if the APC gains complete control, the institution’s integrity will be compromised.

“In a parliamentary system, the Minority Leader serves as the alternative government. But if we have a Minority Leader who plays the role of the ruling party, it would be better for the country,” he concluded.
