In response to the escalating security crisis in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, the Senate has announced its intention to summon the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike. Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the FCT, disclosed this during a Channels TV program on Sunday, expressing concern over the surge in kidnapping, killings, and other criminal activities perpetrated by bandits in the nation’s capital.

Senator Kingibe, who belongs to the Labour Party (LP), asserted that the Senate would summon Minister Wike to provide an explanation and outline his plans for addressing the security crisis when the Senate resumes plenary. She emphasized the importance of the FCT Minister, as the chief security officer, presenting a comprehensive plan for the protection of the people in the FCT.

While acknowledging the likelihood of summoning Minister Wike, Senator Kingibe raised the issue of a perceived “disconnect” between herself and the FCT Minister. She accused Minister Wike of ignoring her messages and letters related to the prevailing insecurity in the region.

The Senator stressed the need for collaboration between the FCT Minister, the police commissioner, and the head of the Department of State Services (DSS) to formulate an effective plan to tackle the security challenges facing Abuja. The summoning of Minister Wike aims to seek accountability and clarity regarding the government’s strategy in addressing the security concerns in the nation’s capital.
