    Senate confirms Ariwoola as CJN

    The upper Chambers of the National Assembly, the Senate on Wednesday confirmed the appointment of Justice Olukayode Ariwoola as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN)

    “Pursuant to Section 231(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as ammended ,I forward for confirmation by the Senate of Honourable Justice Olukayode Ariwoola as the Chief Justice of Nigeria ” Buhari had stated in a letter he sent to the senate

    The upper legislative Chamber confirmed Ariwoola as CJN on Wednesday September 21 2022 after the Senate Leader Abdullahi Gobir,moved a motion to screen him in the “Committee of the whole”.

    Justice Ariwoola was screened and subsequently confirmed as the CJN of Nigeria through a voice vote.

    Justice Ariwoola has been holding the office in acting capacity following the resignation of the former CJN Justice Ibrahim Mohammed Tanko.
    Mohammed resignation after 14 justice of the supreme court caused him of abandoning his responsibilities as the leader of the court.
