President Bola Tinubu expressed optimism on Tuesday, October 24, stating that the Nigerian economy will soon rebound, despite the challenges faced by Nigerians.
The President made these remarks while inaugurating the two-day Green Economy Summit titled ‘Sustainable Future: Harnessing Green Assets and Innovation for Niger State’s Prosperity,’ which was organized by the Niger State Government.
Represented by Senator Abdullahi Sabi, the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, President Tinubu provided insights into the recently approved solid mineral development policy, which was discussed during the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting the previous day.
He explained, “To demonstrate the government’s commitment to establishing a green economy, just yesterday (Monday) at the Federal Executive Council, a new solid mineral development policy was approved. This policy will certainly align with and benefit the green economy envisioned for Niger State because it emphasizes eradicating all forms of illegality that harm our environment.”
The President added, “It also aims to ensure a new principle of resource-use efficiency while enabling legal operators in the mining sector to do so. Like His Excellency, the Governor mentioned, Niger State is endowed with various mineral resources. I want to assure you that the President’s commitment to the establishment of a green economy over the next few years will align with the green economy vision you have for Niger State.”
He acknowledged the difficulties brought about by some necessary decisions and reassured that the nation would soon reap the rewards of these tough choices. He stressed that the economy would recover, and food security, a top priority, would receive the attention it merits.
In his address, Niger State Governor Mohammed Umar Bago disclosed that his administration had developed its first Green Economy Blueprint. This strategic document outlines a visionary roadmap for shaping development choices and actions in line with sustainability principles.
The Governor stated, “We are using this Summit to present a draft to stakeholders for their review and input, after which it shall be formally launched and applied in the preparation of our appropriation proposals for 2024 and beyond. This blueprint is a comprehensive guide that details our vision, objectives, strategies, and actions, designed to transform our state into a beacon of green prosperity that is environmentally sustainable, socially inclusive, and economically robust.”
