The Beune State Police Command has taken decisive action by dismissing Constable Belasa Iyangedue for committing the heinous act of raping a 16-year-old girl who was detained at a police station. The victim had been detained on defamation charges.

While she was in custody at the Divisional Police headquarters in Tse Agbaragba, located in the Konshisha Local Government Area of the state, Constable Iyangedue, who had posed as someone helping her, allegedly took her from the female cell to an office and sexually assaulted her against her will.

The underage girl had the courage to report the incident to the Divisional Police Officer, which led to the immediate arrest of the constable. Subsequently, the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Makurdi for further investigation.

In light of the serious misconduct, Constable Belasa Iyangedue is currently facing prosecution at the Magistrates’ Court in Makurdi. The Benue State Police Command, through its spokesperson, stated that the police force is an institution that upholds discipline and responsibility for managing and combating crime. Individuals who engage in such criminal behavior are not tolerated within the police system. Therefore, in addition to being dismissed from his position, the constable is now being held accountable through the legal system.
