Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has condemned the planned demolition of approximately “200 houses” in Abuja’s Nuwalege community to facilitate the expansion of the presidential fleet, deeming it an inconsiderate project. Obi expressed his dismay and concern about the development, describing it as ill-timed given the country’s current hardships.

In a statement shared on his official handle on Friday, Obi remarked, “I am shocked by the recent report of the planned demolition of about 200 houses in the Nuwalege community in Abuja, to make way for the Presidential Fleet. I am again pained that we are embarking on such an inconsiderate project at this critical time when the country is going through untold hardship.”

The former governor of Anambra State emphasized that the focus should shift toward reducing or eliminating the Presidential Fleet to cut costs and allocate resources to more essential projects that benefit the people instead of demolishing homes.

Obi advocated for a reconsideration of the decision, urging the government to prioritize the welfare of Nigerians over luxury. He stated, “We cannot continue to encourage those who have kept us suffering to enjoy a luxurious lifestyle far beyond our legitimate means. A democratically elected people-oriented government must always care for the people, above itself.”

In conclusion, Obi stressed the importance of avoiding unnecessary inconveniences for the people to accommodate the extravagant excesses of the ruling class. He underscored that true national growth and development come from prioritizing the well-being of citizens.
