Gospel singer, Yinka Alaseyori, has apologised to Nigerians who felt offended by her recent comments on the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oyo State.
Daily NewsCraft reports that Alaseyori faced backlash for calling on Nigerians to intensify prayers for the country as concerns grow over insecurity and the abduction of children in parts of the nation.
But in a video shared on Instagram Wednesday, the singer expressed regret over the backlash that followed her earlier remarks, saying she never intended to make anyone feel unheard or dismissed.
According to Alaseyori, she discovered that many Nigerians were unhappy with her comments and felt that their concerns over the plight of the abducted victims were not being taken seriously.
“I did a video two days ago about the kidnapped children, touching on government, parastatals and every agency. But when I woke up yesterday, I found out that some well-meaning Nigerians were not happy about it, as I made them feel their voices are unheard,” she said.
The singer pleaded for forgiveness, particularly from mothers and families affected by the incident, insisting that she would never deliberately disregard their pain.
“You know me too well that I would never make you feel like that. Mothers, do not be offended. I am sorry. I beg in God’s name. Please, forgive me. I would never think like that. Pardon and forgive me,” she added.
Speaking on the security situation in an Instagram live on Monday, she said efforts are being made by the government and security agencies to address the challenges confronting the country, stressing that spiritual support through prayer remains crucial.
Daily NewsCraft reports that the kidnapping of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State has continued to generate concern among Nigerians, with many calling for intensified efforts to secure the release of the victims.
