Omo-Agege sets to join ADC coalition

    Published on

As political realignments gain momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, is reportedly set to dump the All Progressives Congress (APC) and align with the emerging opposition coalition led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

New National Star has gathered that consultations are at an advanced stage, with credible sources confirming that Omo-Agege’s formal defection could be announced within days.

If confirmed, his move would be a strategic boost to the ADC-led coalition, which is positioning itself as a formidable opposition bloc to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling APC in 2027.

Sources close to the matter told our correspondent that Omo-Agege’s defection is part of wider consultations involving several high-profile political figures across Nigeria’s opposition landscape.

“This isn’t speculation anymore. Talks have advanced, and his formal declaration is imminent,” one insider disclosed, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Omo-Agege, who was the APC’s governorship candidate in Delta State during the 2023 elections, remains a key political figure in the South-South region—an area widely regarded as critical in determining national electoral outcomes.

The ADC-led coalition has recently intensified its outreach, holding several closed-door meetings with stakeholders, civil society groups, and disillusioned political heavyweights across party lines.

New National Star can report authoritatively that the coalition aims to unite forces from smaller opposition parties and disaffected political figures to mount a serious challenge to the APC’s grip on power in 2027.

Omo-Agege’s likely entry follows a wave of similar overtures involving former governors, senators, and ex-ministers, all reportedly in talks with ADC leaders.

A lawyer by training, Senator Omo-Agege served as Deputy Senate President from 2019 to 2023 during Nigeria’s 9th National Assembly. A staunch loyalist of the APC during the Buhari era, he has since emerged as a major political player in Delta State and the broader South-South.

Analysts suggest that his defection—if it happens—could significantly weaken the APC in the region and reshape the balance of power on the national political stage.
