Alexis Beka Beka, a talented midfielder playing for French Ligue 1 club OGC Nice, recently made headlines for a suicide attempt. Reports suggest that the 22-year-old footballer, originally from Congo and now a French citizen, was driven to this extreme by a heart-wrenching breakup with his girlfriend, Carla.

As his teammates prepared for a crucial match against Brest on October 1, Beka found himself at the Magnan Viaduct in Nice, contemplating ending his life. Quick intervention by a team comprising an OGC Nice psychologist, emergency services, firefighters, and military personnel managed to convince him to abandon his tragic decision. The incident caused a temporary disruption in the area’s traffic flow.

OGC Nice has since released a statement expressing relief that Beka’s suicide attempt was thwarted. The club assured that he is safe and receiving necessary care. The statement emphasized the importance of medical confidentiality and urged everyone to respect Beka’s privacy during this difficult time. The club reaffirmed its full support for the young player and extended its backing to him and his family.

Beka, who transferred from Lokomotiv Moscow to OGC Nice on August 1, 2022, for a significant sum of €12 million, has made 22 appearances and scored one goal for the club. Although he predominantly plays as a defensive midfielder, he has yet to feature in any matches this season. His current contract with OGC Nice is set to expire on June 30, 2027.
