Obi ultimatum:  You’re joking, Nenadi Usman dismisses Abure

    Published on

Acting National Chairman of Labour Party (LP), Senator Nenadi Usman, has dismissed the 48- hour ultimatum purportedly issued by the embattled sacked Chairman   of the party, Julius Abure to Mr. Peter Obi to quit.

Describing Abure and some members of the former national working committee still with him as “political jesters with no legitimate standing in Labour Party”, Usman said Abure and his co-travellers have no locus to issue decide for the party, let alone give ultimatum to anyone in a party he has no stake.

Usman was reacting to trending news items credited to the LP former National Chairman Julius Abure wherein he issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Peter Obi to resign from the party, citing his involvement in coalition talks.

Responding through her Senior Special Adviser, Ken Asogwa, the LP Acting National Chairman stressed that those behind the alleged 48 hours ultimatum issued to the 2023 presidential candidate of the party to resign are “neither recognised by the party nor by the law, having long been sacked by the Supreme Court of Nigeria – the highest court in the land – and suspended from the party for their serial acts of indiscipline and anti-party activities.”

She explained that the party had given its blessings to Obi to participate in the coalition talks.

The Labour Party flag bearer in the 2023 general election has, on Wednesday, joined some political bigwigs including former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, former Senate President, David Mark, former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El Rufai, former Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, among others, in a coalition talk ahead of 2027, in Abuja.

The meeting unveiled a rebirth of African Democratic Congress (ADC) which would provide a credible opposition platform to the APC in the 2027 general elections.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the leadership of the Labour Party, on May 26, 2025, publicly declared its full support for Mr. Obi’s involvement in the coalition efforts aimed at creating a robust political alternative to rescue Nigeria from the disastrous misrule of the APC. That position has not changed.

“We wish to reaffirm that Mr. Peter Obi’s participation in the coalition activities, including the ADC unveiling, was done with the full knowledge, approval, and support of the Labour Party leadership.

“It is the remnants of the disorder and mess left behind by these impostors that the current leadership under Senator Nenadi Usman continues to clean. Therefore, members of the public, and especially the media, are urged to disregard the distractions and mischief from these discredited elements.

“For clarity, the only legitimate and authoritative source of information regarding the official position of the Labour Party on any matter remains the office of Senator Nenadi Usman, Acting National Chairman of the Labour Party,” Asogwa said in the statement.

In the trending ultimatum issued to Obi, former national publicity secretary, Obiora Ifoh, claimed that Obi was given a 48 hours ultimatum to resign his membership of the party over allegations of joining a coalition.

The statement claimed that the coalition members are power mongers whose only interest was self and not the people.
