NLC Holds Protest in Lagos Against Fuel Subsidy Removal

Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) have initiated protests in Lagos in response to the removal of petrol subsidy. The demonstrators have gathered at the Ikeja under-bridge and intend to march throughout the state, concluding their protest at the Governor’s office in Alausa, Ikeja.

Security personnel are present to maintain order and prevent any potential disruption caused by miscreants attempting to hijack the protest.

The planned protest reflects the NLC’s dissatisfaction with what they perceive as unfavorable policies of the President Bola Tinubu-led government, specifically the removal of fuel subsidy.

Earlier, the NLC had issued a seven-day ultimatum to the federal government, demanding the reversal of the fuel subsidy removal and other policies deemed anti-people. The union also called on Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and councils across various states to join the nationwide strike on August 2 to protest the escalating cost of living in the country.

The protest is scheduled to begin at 7:30 am in all 36 states of the federation, as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
