In a tragic incident, an Immigration officer, Isah Mohammed, has been killed by a mob in Niger State amid a long-standing land dispute between two communities. The attack occurred on Wednesday on Mohammed’s farmland in Lavun Local Government Area, specifically within the Doko and Kupafu communities.

Mohammed, who hailed from the Zhitsu Babi area of Doko, was assaulted by individuals believed to be from the rival Kupafu community. This violence erupted over an ongoing land dispute that had been unresolved for years despite efforts by traditional institutions and law enforcement agencies to mediate.

Niger State Police Command Spokesman Wasiu Abiodun confirmed the incident, stating that Mohammed was transported to Umaru Sanda General Hospital in Bida but was pronounced dead upon arrival. The police report indicated that the attack occurred around 11:30 AM, and despite a quick response from local police, the assailants had already fled by the time they arrived.

The death of Isah Mohammed has intensified tensions between the two communities, highlighting the urgent need for effective conflict resolution mechanisms in the region.
