Kebbi State branch of Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has urged all the unions in the country to rally behind the NUT and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to demand good working conditions for the Nigerian workers.
The NUT Chairman Kebbi State, Comrade Sarki Zaki, who made the call in a statement on Saturday, said that the Nigerian worker deserves a living wage that reflects the current reality in the country.
Zaki said that the Plateau State NUT has thrown its weight behind the statement made by its National President, Comrade Audu Titus Amba, during the just concluded Nigeria workers’ rights summit held recently in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital.
Zaki described Amba’s statement as bold, courageous, and timely, saying the President’s statement at the summit on the struggle for Nigeria workers rights and an uncompromising stand on the upward review of the current national minimum truly reflect the views and stands of Nigerian workers.
He added that the National President’s bold statement before the gathering of stakeholders in the labour industry indicated his resolve to vigorously pursue all the rights of workers fearlessly and holistically.
”We are pleased with his presence at the summit and we are hundred percent behind his stand for workers rights and their push for upward review of National minimum wage alongside the National President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC),” he said.
The teachers’ body commended the NUT General Secretary Dr Clinton Ikpitibo for participating in the just concluded Nigeria rights of workers amplifying same struggle for decent work conditions of workers and a push for a new National minimum wage across the country and at levels.
Amba had during the Nigeria workers rights summit in Kebbi State at the podium demanded review of minimum wage and decent work conditions for all categories of workers with a passionate call to governments at all levels to ensure the implementations of the upward review of new National minimum wage being pushed by NLC and NUT he spoke as the representative of NLC National President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, at the summit.
