The Kogi state governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo has signed in law two key revenue bills, aligning with the Federal Government’s new tax reforms.

The laws include ;Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (Establishment) Law, 2025 and Kogi State Taxes and Levies (Approved List for Collection) Law, 2025.

This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the state information commissioner, Kingsley Fanwo.

According to him, “this move is expected to boost State revenue, enhance transparency, and promote economic growth.”

Outlining the key benefits, the commissioner stated that low-income earners below N 800,000 annually are exempted from tax while the Simplified tax processes and reduced compliance costs will attract businesses.

Other key benefits according to the commissioner include “Digitalised tax administration which will reduce human interference and promote accountability as well as supporting structural reset, drive harmonisation, and protect dignity, rather than raise tax obligations.”

President Tinubu has said that the new tax law should commence on the 1st January,2026 as planned
“These reforms are a once-in-a-generation opportunity to build a fair, competitive, and robust fiscal foundation for our country.” The president had said.

He said that the tax laws are not designed to raise taxes, but rather to support a structural reset, drive harmonisation, and protect dignity while strengthening the social contract.
