I have not committed any crime – Speed Darlington tells NAPTIP

    Published on

The controversial singer Darlington Okoye, also known as Speed Darlington, has responded to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), stating that he is wanted for alleged offences such as cyberbullying, cyberstalking, and rape.

The musician was previously invited to be questioned by NAPTIP after he claimed to have had sex with a 15-year-old girl in a live Instagram video. He, however, failed to honour the agency’s invitation. Last Friday, the agency posted a poster stating that he was wanted on its social media accounts.

In a video that he posted today, June 30, Speed Darlington claimed that he did not commit any crimes and that his reckless speech in the video was the only wrong thing. He said the agency was using his name to gain influence and make it look like they were actually working.

‘’This video is for NAPTIP. All this wanted you posted and blast everywhere, I want you to take that shit down. I am not coming. You hear me? I am not coming! I have not committed any crime. All I did was speak. Irresponsible talk is not a crime. I am not coming. Where is your evidence? Who is the complainant?  Una wan use me collect social media clout….’We are doing our job; we summoned a celebrity’. I was born here and I know the psychological game when una wan use my name blow.”

Speed Darlington went on to say that before he can appear before its investigation panel, the agency needs to pay him N2.5 million.

‘’N2.5m is what I charge for appearance. Una go pay me N2.5 m plus round-trip ticket for me and my PA because I call that appearance because you guys have no evidence. There is no crime. All I did was try to trend. You have no evidence. You have nothing, so me coming there is waste of my time.”

He added that the agency is only just reacting to some social media users who drew their attention to his video and asked that the agency go after him. According to him, women in their 30s and 20s without husbands spearheaded the call for him to be invited for questioning.

‘’ Which one is cyberstalking? Who did I stalk? Did I post anyone? Cyberbullying? Who did I bully? Did I call any names in the video? You just are there throwing English up and down trying to intimidate people so you can look important. ‘’
