GTBank Refutes Hacking Claims, Attributes Website Disruption to Connectivity Issues

Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) has firmly denied allegations that its website was hacked, calling the reports “completely false.”

The bank’s website, gtbank.com, was inaccessible on Wednesday night, shortly after the domain was renewed through 2029. Despite this, GTBank’s mobile apps for Android and iOS remained operational.

There has been no claim of responsibility from any hacker group, and some speculate that a fraudulent version of the website might have been created to phish for customer data. A cybersecurity expert suggested that compromised login credentials might be the issue rather than a domain hijack.

A senior GTBank executive, speaking to the Daily Post, clarified that the disruption was due to a connectivity problem, not a security breach, and dismissed the hacking rumors.
