Gov. Peter Mbah of Enugu State on Tuesday presented an appropriation bill of N1.62 trillion for the 2026 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly for consideration and passage.
Presenting the budget tagged “Budget of Renewed Momentum” in Enugu, Mbah said the figure represented a 66.5 per cent increase from the 2025 budget. He said the budget was designed to sustain the momentum his administration had achieved in the last two years, which he maintained had been impactful.
Giving a breakdown of the estimate, Mbah said N321 billion, representing 20 percent was earmarked for recurrent expenditure, while N1.29 trillion was set aside for capital expenditure.
He noted that the budget was built on four pillars: empowerment and education, inclusive and people-centred development, good governance, and economic transformation.
According to him, the budget will be financed with N870 billion from Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), N387 billion from federal allocation, and N329 billion from capital receipts.
For sectoral allocation, the Economic sector received the highest share at N825 billion, followed by the Social sector with N644 billion. The Administration sector was allocated N128 billion, the Law and Justice sector N15 billion, and the Regional sector N2 billion.
Reviewing the outgoing fiscal year, Mbah disclosed that the 2025 budget had achieved 83 per cent implementation and expressed optimism that performance would increase before year-end.
Responding, Speaker of the House, Chief Uche Ugwu, commended the governor for the “wonderful transformation” of the state within two years. He pledged continued legislative support and assured accelerated hearing and passage of the appropriation bill to enable the governor achieve his developmental targets.
