Favour Ofili quits Nigeria, switches allegiance to Turkey

    Published on

Nigerian sprint star Favour Ofili has announced the end of her 2025 season and confirmed she will now compete for Turkey—closing one chapter with Nigeria while voicing pride and frustration in equal measure.

In a post on her official Twitter handle, Ofili reflected on her year:

“Wrapping up my 2025 season has been a whirlwind of new experiences and big decisions. Racing back-to-back across amazing cities and learning from the best has been incredible.”

The 200m Olympic finalist then confirmed her long-rumoured switch:

“As some of you have heard, I’m also starting a new chapter representing Turkey.”

Ofili highlighted her achievements in Nigerian colours, listing six gold, two silver, and two bronze medals at major championships, as well as her Olympic final appearance in the 200m.

“I am proud to have represented Nigeria for many years in a highly successful way,” she said, before adding pointedly, “…while experiencing the biggest disappointment from AFN and NOC towards me,” referring to the Athletics Federation of Nigeria and the Nigerian Olympic Committee.

Her decision closes a glittering chapter for Nigeria and sets the stage for a new career phase under Turkey’s flag.
