In a historic match at the Gewiss Stadium, Cesc Fabregas’s Como secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Atalanta, marking their first Serie A win in 23 years.
The game showcased Como’s resilience, with three goals in a dynamic 12-minute span that turned the tide against a strong Atalanta side.
“It feels amazing to lead this team to such a historic victory,” Fabregas remarked, reflecting on the significance of the win.
Fabregas was appointed as Como’s head coach in July 2024, ahead of their first Serie A season in 21 years. Como’s return to the top flight came under the guidance of former head coach Osian Roberts, who led them to automatic promotion last season.
The match, initially scheduled for Monday, faced delays due to torrential rain in the Bergamo region, forcing officials to postpone it until Tuesday.
Despite the challenging start, Atalanta took the lead in the 18th minute with a stunning half-volley from Davide Zappacosta. Como responded with determination, creating several opportunities before finally breaking through early in the second half.
Gabriel Strefezza equalized just 20 seconds after the restart, and a deflected own goal by Sead Kolasinac, followed by a composed finish from Alieu Fadera, gave Como a 3-1 lead.
Atalanta pushed back late in the game, with Ademola Lookman converting a penalty in the ninth minute of injury time, but Como held on to claim a memorable victory.
This win highlights Como’s potential under Fabregas’s management and serves as a significant milestone for a club looking to establish itself in Serie A once again.
