Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has signed into law the Ekiti State Property Protection (Anti-Land Grabbing, Second Amendment Law, 2024), along with two other key bills aimed at fostering development in the state. The new anti-land grabbing law is designed to regulate and sanitize land acquisition processes, prohibiting forceful entry, illegal occupation, and fraudulent or violent activities related to landed properties.
Governor Oyebanji, whose administration recently marked two years, expressed gratitude to the state House of Assembly for their support, acknowledging that the legal framework provided by the Assembly has been instrumental in his administration’s success. He promised that the next two years would see even greater achievements.
“I can assure you that we will implement this law to the letter, no matter who is involved,” Oyebanji said, noting that land grabbing had stunted development in Ekiti.
In addition to the anti-land grabbing law, the governor also signed the High Court Law (First Amendment, 2014) and the Ekiti State Legislative House (Powers and Privileges) Law, 2024.
Assembly Speaker Adeoye Aribasoye emphasized that the laws would help advance democracy and development in Ekiti. The signing ceremony was attended by key government officials, including Deputy Governor Mrs. Monisade Afuye and Secretary to the State Government Dr. Habibat Adubiaro.
