Mr. Ola Olukoyede, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has issued a directive requiring all employees of the commission to promptly disclose their assets in accordance with civil service regulations and protocols.

This announcement was made on Tuesday during a meeting with senior EFCC staff at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja. Olukoyede emphasized that the fight against corruption demands absolute transparency from those at the forefront.

The EFCC head assured the agency’s staff that upholding the rule of law would be a fundamental commitment and guiding principle of their work. He stated, “The EFCC is a product of the law. Our duties must be executed in full compliance with legal standards. This is an internationally recognized practice, and we will make it our established norm.

“All of us, from Level 17 and below, will disclose our assets. I have already done so, and there is no reason for anyone to be hesitant. The commission’s secretary has also complied. It is possible that many of you have done this in the past, but there is a necessity for all of us to update our asset disclosures. We will not only declare our assets but also subject them to scrutiny.

“As anti-corruption fighters, we must set a high standard by leading with exemplary conduct. Our hands must remain clean, and, therefore, we must disclose our assets,” quoted Olukoyede’s statement as conveyed by the EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, in a statement issued to the press on Tuesday.

While urging the operatives to maintain professionalism, Olukoyede further urged commission staff to prioritize the core mission of combating economic and financial crimes. He emphasized that these efforts should contribute to the nation’s economic growth, foster an enabling environment for increased investment, and fortify the foundation of the economy.

Olukoyede elaborated, “Our task is to enhance the nation’s value. Investors must have faith in the economy, and we must assist the country in governing with transparency and accountability. By doing so, we can chart a new course to restore the nation’s reputation.

“I implore you to ensure that our actions are beyond reproach and that we maintain the highest standards. Some may not appreciate my stance, but I am committed to upholding principles and treating everyone equally, regardless of their religion, ethnicity, or region.”

He assured agency staff of improved welfare benefits, enhanced training opportunities, and equal access to promote higher productivity. At the same time, he cautioned individuals engaging in unethical practices and compromising their positions to cease such conduct, as severe consequences await any unsavory behavior.
