In a recent court ruling, pro-Wike lawmakers have been restrained from acting as members of the Rivers State House of Assembly. The court issued the following orders:
1. Order of Interlocutory Injunction Against Lawmakers:
The court granted an order of interlocutory injunction restraining the 1st to 25th defendants from presenting themselves as members of the Rivers State House of Assembly. These defendants are barred from meeting or sitting at the Assembly Auditorium located at Off Aba Road, Port Harcourt, or any other location to conduct legislative business, pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit. Their legislative seats have been declared vacant.
2. Order Against Interactions with Barred Lawmakers:
An additional order of interlocutory injunction restrains the 26th to 28th defendants from engaging with, accepting resolutions, or interacting in any capacity with the 1st to 25th defendants, whose legislative seats are vacant as of December 13, 2023, pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.
3.Case Adjournment:
The case is adjourned to July 1, 2024, for mention.
This judicial decision prevents the affected lawmakers from participating in any legislative activities until the court reaches a final decision on the matter.
