A yet-to-be-determined number of individuals are trapped following the collapse of a building under construction near Onitsha’s Ochanja market in Anambra State.

The structure, intended to serve as a market upon completion, collapsed around 8 pm on Monday, with some workers still inside.

The incident has sparked panic in the area, with bystanders and residents mobilizing to rescue those trapped under the debris.

As of the time of this report on Tuesday, one fatality has been reported, and two others have sustained injuries of varying severity, while rescue efforts continue.

Efforts to reach the state police spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, for confirmation have been unsuccessful thus far.

Further updates will follow as the situation develops.
