    Published on

    Theme: “The Loudest Hallelujah Without the Fear of God” (Amos 5:23–24)

    The First Session of the Twelfth Synod of the Diocese of Mbaise entered its third day and penultimate session on Saturday, May 30, 2026, with a series of spiritually enriching, intellectually stimulating, and community-focused activities that further underscored the significance of this year’s Synod theme, “The Loudest Hallelujah Without the Fear of God.”

    The day’s proceedings commenced with a Holy Communion Service celebrated by the Rev. Chukwunyere Oha, assisted by fellow priests of the Diocese.

    Bible Study II Challenges Worshippers to Genuine Repentance

    One of the most anticipated events of the day was the second Bible Study session facilitated by the Synod Guest Bishop, Preacher, and Bible Study Leader, the Rt. Rev. Ifeanyichukwu Godfrey Ekpenisi, Bishop of Ika Anglican Diocese.

    Speaking on the topic, “Hypocrisy in Worship: A Call to Repentance; Let It Flow Like a River,” Bishop Ekpenisi delivered a profound exposition on the dangers of superficial worship and the necessity of authentic devotion to God.

    Drawing extensively from Amos 5:21–24, Micah 6:8, and Matthew 15:7–9, the facilitator employed a highly interactive and participatory teaching style, leading Synod delegates through scriptural reflections and practical applications. The study sought to:

    – Expose the dangers of hypocrisy in worship;

    – Call believers to genuine repentance and spiritual transformation; and

    – Emphasize righteous living as a prerequisite for acceptable worship before God.

    The session was widely acclaimed by participants as deeply enlightening, spiritually impactful, and even more engaging than the first Bible Study session.

    At the conclusion of the study, the Diocesan Bishop of Mbaise, the Rt. Rev. Chamberlain Chinedum Ogunedo, JP, MSc, expressed heartfelt appreciation to Bishop Ekpenisi for his commitment to faithfully expounding the Synod theme and allowing himself to be used by God to redirect the hearts and minds of His people toward genuine worship and godly living.

    Archdeaconries Offer Thanksgiving

    Following the Bible Study, the various Archdeaconries of the Diocese, led by their respective Archdeacons, participated in the annual Archdeaconries’ Thanksgiving. In a colourful display of gratitude and celebration, delegates processed to the altar in praise and thanksgiving to God for His faithfulness throughout the Synod year.

    Speaking during the adoption, Ven. Ukabiala remarked:

    «”I thought the Bishop’s Presidential Address last Synod was the best. Having listened to today’s Address, I was tempted to say he has surpassed himself. But the Spirit of God impressed upon me that we are yet to see his best, and by God’s grace, we shall all be alive to witness it.”»

    The Synod also adopted its resolutions and communiqué after they were presented by the Rev. Canon Anyasodo.
