The political atmosphere in Kaduna State intensified on Monday following the emergence of key contenders from the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primaries across the state’s three districts ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Former Kaduna State Governor, Muktar Ramalan Yero, emerged as the APC candidate for Kaduna North Senatorial District after a keenly contested primary election attended by party delegates, stakeholders, and supporters from across the zone.
In Kaduna Central, former lawmaker and prominent social critic, Shehu Sani, secured the party’s ticket in what observers have described as a major political comeback. His victory has already sparked widespread reactions within political circles and among supporters across the state.
Meanwhile, incumbent senator Sunday Marshall Katung retained strong support in Kaduna South Senatorial District, clinching the APC nomination and reinforcing his political standing ahead of the forthcoming elections.
Party officials who supervised the exercises described the primaries as peaceful, transparent, and reflective of internal democratic processes within the APC. Celebrations erupted in several parts of the state as supporters of the successful candidates welcomed the outcomes.
Political analysts say the emergence of the three candidates signals the beginning of what could become one of the most fiercely contested senatorial races in northern Nigeria, with Kaduna expected to play a significant role in the national political equation in 2027.
The APC leadership is expected to officially unveil the candidates in the coming days as preparations for statewide campaigns gather momentum.
