Ajibola Basiru, the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has criticized the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, led by Ademola Adeleke, describing it as incompetent.

Basiru asserted that those who played a role in bringing the Adeleke administration into power were now regretting their decision. Speaking at a reception hosted by the APC leadership of the Osogbo Federal Constituency on Saturday, Basiru urged party members to reconcile their differences and focus on strengthening the party. He called for the removal of Ademola Adeleke from the governor’s office in the upcoming 2026 elections, emphasizing the importance of avoiding internal conflicts.

In his statement, Basiru commented, “Within less than a year, those who sought to undermine the progress of our state are already expressing their dissatisfaction. The individuals they appointed to govern the state lack the necessary skills for governance. Their appointments include positions like SSA, Government House Pool; SSA Oranmiyan Newtown; SSA, Children; SSA Swimming Pool, and the like. These individuals need to be dismissed from their government roles.”

Basiru also predicted that if Adeleke is removed from office in 2026, he will likely attend a three-day diploma program in NGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations), following his unsuccessful attempt to remove the Iyaloja General. Basiru expressed his confidence in the well-organized nature of the APC and urged members to demonstrate greater commitment.

In response to Basiru’s remarks, the state Commissioner for Information and Public Engagement, Kolapo Alimi, stated that he was not surprised, given Basiru’s history of making careless statements. Alimi defended the recent appointments made by Governor Adeleke, asserting that these appointments should not be equated with a lack of performance.
