Chuba Akpom, the Nigerian attacker currently playing for Ajax Amsterdam, has expressed his desire to leave the Dutch Eredivisie giants.

Akpom, a product of the Hale End Academy, is seeking a move away from Ajax less than a year after joining from Championship side Middlesbrough.

The 28-year-old is keen to secure a transfer during the summer window due to his limited playing time at Ajax. He has started only eight of the forty-three games played by the club this season, amassing a total of 1,218 minutes on the pitch.

In January, Akpom contemplated leaving the Netherlands, but Ajax officials blocked his transfer. Despite concrete interest from Premier League clubs Nottingham Forest and Fulham, as well as Ligue 1 sides Lille and Lens, a move failed to materialize during the winter transfer window.

VfB Stuttgart from the German Bundesliga also showed interest, but Ajax opted to retain Akpom for the remainder of the season.

Since the appointment of John van ‘t Schip as coach, Akpom has experienced a resurgence in form, scoring 12 goals in 22 games under the retired Netherlands international’s guidance.

Despite his desire to depart, Akpom remains under contract with Ajax Amsterdam until June 30, 2028.
