AFCON 2025 Qualifier: Injuries Ravage Benin Squad Ahead of Super Eagles Clash

    Published on

Benin Republic’s squad has been hit by more injuries ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Nigeria and Libya. Midfielder Matteo Ahlinvi and left-back David Kiki have both been ruled out due to fitness concerns.

Ahlinvi, who picked up an injury while playing for his Swedish club Vasteras last weekend, will remain at the club for treatment. Meanwhile, Kiki, who is currently in Abidjan with the team, will also miss the match due to lingering fitness issues. Head coach Gernot Rohr confirmed that Kiki has been recovering from an injury for the past two months but is not yet fully fit to play.

Additionally, key defenders Cedric Hountondji and Olivier Verdon had already been ruled out of the crucial qualifiers. Despite the multiple setbacks, Rohr has opted not to call up replacements for the injured players.
