It is with deep sadness that we report the passing of veteran Nollywood actress Sidikat Odunkanwi, professionally known as Iyabo Oko.

On Facebook, her daughter Bisi Aisha announced today that the actress passed away on Wednesday evening. In her post, she wrote, “May your soul rest in peace, mummy.”

Actress Foluke Daramola-Salako also confirmed the news of her death. Taking to her Instagram page, Daramola-Salako wrote, “And finally, we lost her… RIP Iyabo Oko. We did our best, but God knows best.”

Born on November 15, 1960, in Iwo Local Government Area of Osun State, Sidikat adopted stage names such as “Iyabo Oko,” “Apoti Aje,” and “Sisi Mama.”

Last year, one of her daughters, Olamide, revealed that her mother had been diagnosed with ischaemic stroke about five years ago but had kept her health issues private.

During her difficult times, Yoruba Nollywood stars including Foluke Daramola, Iyabo Ojo, Bolaji Amusan, Mercy Aigbe, and Biodun Okeowo, among others, provided financial assistance.

The Nigerian entertainment industry mourns the loss of an accomplished actress whose contributions to Nollywood will be remembered and cherished. May her soul find eternal peace.
