Sen. Maidoki dumps APC for ADC, cites Kebbi primary crisis

Senator Garba Maidoki, representing Kebbi South Senatorial District, has defected from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
Maidoki announced his defection during Tuesday’s emergency plenary through a letter read by Deputy Senate President, Senator Jibrin Barau, before lawmakers.
In the letter, Maidoki said the move followed extensive consultations with his constituents and was triggered by unresolved internal disputes from the APC primary elections in Kebbi State.
“There is a lingering internal crisis in the APC, especially arising from the Kebbi primary elections. After consultations, I have decided to join the ADC,” he stated.
However, Barau appealed to the lawmaker to reconsider and allow room for reconciliation.
“I wish to intervene and plead with the distinguished senator to rescind his decision. There is no internal problem in APC in Kebbi State,” Barau said.
The Deputy Senate President described the disagreement as a “family matter capable of resolution through dialogue.”
The Senate did not adopt Barau’s reconciliation proposal. The Deputy Senate President subsequently ruled that Maidoki’s defection stood as formally communicated.
Maidoki’s switch adds to the growing wave of defections linked to fallout from party primaries across several states.
