The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission reaffirmed its determination on Wednesday to prosecute Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, the former Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, without wavering. In a statement released on Wednesday, the ICPC alleged that Ojerinde, who is being prosecuted for an alleged N5 billion fraud, utilized multiple fake names, aliases, and forged identification documents, including Akanbi Lamidi, Adeniyi Banji, Habibulahi Lamidi, Joshua Olaniran Olakuleyin, among others, to carry out his corrupt activities through different bank accounts. Furthermore, the ICPC claimed that Ojerinde still possesses the means and influence to elude the pursuit of justice. The judge ordered the anti-graft agency to pay Ojerinde N1m in damages in addition to another N200,000 as the cost of instituting the lawsuit. The judge has mandated the anti-graft agency to compensate Ojerinde with N1 million in damages, along with an additional N200,000 to cover the expenses incurred in filing the lawsuit. But in a statement on Wednesday by its spokesperson, Azuka Ogugua, the ICPC rejected the ruling, declaring that it was going to challenge it at the Court of Appeal.

The ICPC contended that Ojerinde’s re-arrest was based on a warrant issued by the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court. The ICPC has voiced its discontent with the verdict of the Federal High Court in Abuja regarding the civil rights lawsuit initiated by Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, the former Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board.

The commission has stated its intention to appeal the court’s decision. It further asserted that it possesses a legitimate warrant issued by the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court on December 6, 2022.
