The Wachakal airstrip in Nguru, Yobe State, is now 85% completed, according to the Federal Government (FG).

Dr. Emmanuel Meribole, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace, made this announcement during a test flight conducted on the airstrip. He emphasized that the completion of the project will bring about significant reforms in the aviation sector while improving livelihoods.

Engr. Clement Olayinka Awogbami, the Director of Aerodrome Development, who represented the Permanent Secretary, acknowledged the challenges faced during the project, including inflation and limited resources. However, he commended the commitment and dedication to reforming the aviation sector.

Awogbami explained that the airstrip design includes Doppler Very High Frequency Omni Range (DVOR) equipment, which will guide aircraft during landing. However, due to the foreign component involved in its manufacturing, the installation of the DVOR will take some time and is expected to be completed within the next three months.
