    EU: Wagner Mutiny Reveals Cracks in Russian Power Amid Ukraine War

    The failed mutiny within the Wagner private military company is a clear indication that Moscow’s involvement in the war in Ukraine is causing divisions and weakening Russian power, stated Josep Borrell, the European Union’s chief diplomat. Speaking at a meeting of EU foreign ministers, Borrell expressed concern over the instability that a nuclear-armed nation like Russia experiencing. He emphasized the need to acknowledge the implications of such instability. Borrell highlighted that the recent events demonstrate the consequences of the conflict in Ukraine on Russian power and its political system. Referring to the war initiated by President Vladimir Putin and the creation of the Wagner group, Borrell referred to it as a “monster” that is now turning against its creator, highlighting the vulnerabilities within Russia’s political and military power.

    The EU foreign ministers convened in Luxembourg to discuss the repercussions of the mutiny, with a focus on analyzing the situation. Sweden’s Foreign Minister, Tobias Billstrom, regarded the unrest as an internal matter for Russia. He underscored the importance of supporting Ukraine in reclaiming its territory as the primary concern.
