Ogala: Sowore slams Police for allegedly weaponising cybercrime law for pastors

‎Activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) for 2027, Omoyele Sowore, has slammed the Nigeria Police for allegedly weaponising the Cybercrimes Act to protect influential clerics.

    ‎

‎He spoke after the remand of actress, Doris Ogala, at Kirikiri Correctional Centre over her dispute, with Pastor Chris Okafor.

    ‎

‎Sowore, in a Facebook post, said it was worrisome that a private affair allegation could lead to arraignment before a Federal High Court.

    ‎

‎”Once again, the Nigeria Police Force has deepened its weaponisation of the Cybercrimes Act! What kind of society are we becoming?” he queried.

    ‎

‎He faulted Police for turning private relationships into criminal prosecutions and using cybercrime law as an intimidation tool.

    ‎

‎The activist also questioned Justice Akintayo Aluko of Federal High Court Lagos, who is handling the case, over impartiality in pastor-related matters.

    ‎

‎”The perception that the police and judiciary are being used to settle personal scores and protect influential religious figures must be confronted,” he said.

    ‎

‎Ogala was arraigned Wednesday by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation on three counts of cyberbullying, cyberstalking and attempted extortion.

    ‎

‎Prosecutor Tolulope Mokolu alleged she published nude and intimate photos of Okafor on social media between September 2024 and March 2026 without consent.

    ‎

‎The prosecution said the posts were capable of causing embarrassment, emotional distress and reputational damage to the cleric.

    ‎

‎Following arraignment, Justice Aluko remanded Ogala in Kirikiri pending bail application hearing on October 30, 2026.

    ‎

‎Sowore insisted the actress, who contested Abia State governorship under AAC, deserves due process, urging the judiciary not to become a tool for vendetta.
